Professional life and disability are not incompatible. Once the condition of disability was diagnosed, analyzing the difficulties encountered and the professional context allows the identification of practical solutions that can compensate for disability.
People who find it difficult to perform certain professional tasks are many and the reasons for disability are various. These can be caused by the emergence or aggravation of a disability, but also by the aspects related to the wage, organization evolution or work environment.


When speak of a situation of disability?

 
An employee falls into a disability situation when the occupational health of the company indicates that he (she) is unable to perform, in whole or in part, the work. Thus, a disabled person may not necessarily fit in a situation with disabilities if the working conditions are adapted to him (her) and if this does not limit its ability to complete tasks.


Why is important to alert a disability situation?


In an environment with many employees, to report a situation of disability equals a risk that this person shall assume. However, not reporting a situation of disability assumes the risk that the situation may worsen. It is therefore important to make known your difficulties and that you are ready to work; this situation being considered, different solutions may be found, and in agreement with you, it may be identified the opportunities for the job organization or the transfer to another job more appropriate.


How can you keep your job?


There are several steps which enable evaluation of the possible maintenance: keeping the same job, with or without changes, transferring to another position within the enterprise or relocation in another enterprise. These steps are completed with the support of three key components: enterprise, representatives of human resources and occupational health. You can be guided by professionals throughout the process of maintaining your job.
